Loss, Time and Love.

While going through scans of some rolls of film that I shot while studying photography in my early twenties, I stumbled upon this photo of my dear friend Atish, whom we lost to cancer some years ago. An immensely creative, intelligent and warm-hearted person who always had a joke up his sleeve and was forever smiling and making others smile.
Why some photographs bring back such vividly clear memories, fascinates me. Maybe it is to do with the person and the moment, maybe it is because they were shot on film, making it a more deliberate, mindful and engaging process. Or maybe because sometimes, it is the only thing we have left to remind us of someone or something.
‘My Memories are those of euphoric moments of visual revelation, still fluorescing for me like threads in a visual tapestry in which most other colours have faded, leaving a few brightly predominant. Tightly woven in the tapestry are the images I made, themselves informed by the inextricable past and its companions: Loss, Time and Love.’- Sally Mann
